Job summary

Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls is seeking an Instrument Processing Technician to join our team. This role cleans, packages, sterilizes, and stores supplies, instruments, and equipment, ensuring all items are in good working condition.

The position requires basic education and preferred experience in instrument processing, with English reading and communication proficiency. You will work with colleagues to maintain efficient sterilization workflows and support the surgical services team.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent, preferred.
• Experience in instrument processing functions preferred.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments under time constraints.
• Can adapt to rapidly changing workloads due to changes in the surgery census.
• Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required.

Responsibilities

• Cleans each item according to manufacturers’ instruction.
• Inspects instruments under microscope for damage and defects; lubricates items as required.
• Determines that each item is in good working condition.
• Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedure.
• Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedure.
• Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.
• Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer and other equipment for processing items.
• Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
• Checks indicators for proper functioning.
• Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedures.
• Maintains availability of supplies for continuity of recording throughout sterilization process.
• Cleans sterilizers according to established policies and procedures.

The Instrument Processing Technician cleans, packages, sterilizes, and stores the supplies, instruments and equipment. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
