Geisinger's Northeast Pennsylvania Trauma department is seeking BE/BC Critical Care Trauma Surgeons to join their state-verified Level I Trauma Center located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join our team in providing care across all facets of Acute Care Surgery.

• Providing coverage of the trauma service and surgical critical care, with an active emergency general surgery service and dedicated OR time.
• Our Trauma department includes 7 Critical Care Trauma Surgeons and Physician Assistants, supporting inpatient care and trauma/emergency general surgery clinics.
• The trauma program is supported by a surgical residency program.
• Additional staff, outreach, and registry support facilitate patient care.
• This is an employed position with Geisinger.
• Opportunity to participate in clinical research and teach residents, with potential for an academic appointment at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

In addition to clinical duties, the candidate may conduct research and be involved in resident and medical student education.

Position Details

The specialist manages critically ill and postoperative patients, especially trauma victims, focusing on critical care medicine diagnoses and treatments, including support for multiple organ dysfunction. Responsibilities may include administrative duties for ICUs and coordinating care among physicians and specialists.

• Interview patients, obtain medical histories, and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Diagnose and develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and maintain patient records.

Work is performed mainly in clinical and office settings, with adherence to all policies and procedures. Additional department-specific competencies are considered essential.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing

Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine (Required); Licensed Medical Doctor in Pennsylvania.
