Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center is seeking a Surgery Charge Nurse (part-time) to supervise the perioperative patient care team, perform medical record reviews, and lead QA audits. The role acts as a liaison between physicians, OR staff, and support services to ensure smooth case flow and bed management.
The ideal candidate will hold an ADN, be RN-licensed, and have ACLS and BLS/CPR certifications within 90 days of hire.
OPSC Navigator Charge RN is responsible for supervision to the perioperative patient care team and completing medical record reviews, quality assurance auditing of processes and point person for advocate, interpreter, educator for the surgical patient and their family.
Assesses patients' conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members., Assesses patients' conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members., Assessment- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data., Collaborates with surgeons throughout day to facilitate optimal flow with the case load set up’s and placement of surgeries in operating room suites. Communicates all pertinent information, Coordinates bed and patient care assignments during shift and in preparation for the next shift to ensure consistency in care delivery., Coordinates with Sterile Processing, Vendor Representatives, and Supply Chain to ensure necessary equipment is available for scheduled and add-on cases. Communicates and collaborates with OR/SP Material Specialist and specialty coordinators on what equipment, trays, instrumentation needs turned by SPD or vendors and modifies the schedule as necessary when there is a delay or conflict., Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients., Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues., Documents and reports care delivered to the physicians and other team members as needed., Enhances professional growth through classes related to communication, teaching, stress management, conflct resolution, team building annually. (This is in addition to required unit/patient specific education.), Ensures overhead pages, digital alpha pages, phone calls are directed to surgical services personnel, surgeons and vendor reps., Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines., Flexes days, shifts and hours to best cover department needs., Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards., Is a nurse advocate, who makes decisions in the best interest of the patient when called to the operating rooms when there are issues or concerns brought forward by the OR team., Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities., Makes final decisions on daily operational workload in collaboration with anesthesia when the OR Management team is unavailable., Makes personnel assignments in the perioperative areas, operating room, and sterile pricessing as applicable to align with education direction for desired staffing needs. This includes rotations necessary for orientation, professional development, and remediation., Modifies surgery schedule and personnel assignments when it is necessary to close surgical suites for repairs or due to staffing constraints secondary to call-in’s or limitations., Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation., Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes., Provides and tracks input on monitoring ongoing clinical data collection for quality assurance programs pertinent to optimization of surgical services productivity, Provides direction to staff on completing cleaning tasks, checking for outdates, and monitoring duties to align with TJC preparedness., Provides leadership and supervision to health care team during assigned shift., Provides moving help of patients in the operating rooms and can help to facilitate IV starts in peri-operative services as needed. {+ 10 more}
