Job summary

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzards Bay, MA, is seeking a full-time Veterinary Surgery Assistant to support surgeons and nurses in the operating room and client areas.

You will help prepare the surgical suite, restrain patients, assist with diagnostics, and ensure a clean, safe environment. Training provided; on-site schedule with on-call as required.

Qualifications

  • Previous surgical veterinary experience or 6 months in a veterinary hospital.
  • Able to lift and restrain pets up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to learn various veterinary software programs.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent clear communication skills.
  • Must be attentive and respectful to veterinarians, clients, and co-workers

Responsibilities

  • Set up and clean the surgical suite.
  • Clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
  • Restrain pets for medical treatments and diagnostics as ordered.
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging.
  • Disinfect pet cages after use.
  • Cross-train in other areas when necessary

Veterinary Surgery Assistant

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists is seeking a full-time Surgery Assistant to join the team in our Buzzards Bay, MA, location.

About this role

The Veterinary Surgery Assistant is a key hospital team member who supports and assists the surgeons and veterinary nurses. They ensure the safety of pets, clients, and other associates and the continuity of quality veterinary care. This opportunity is an excellent first step in growing your career in veterinary medicine.

The Surgery Assistant will
  • Leverage the surgery team
  • Run in-house pre-surgical blood work
  • Set up and clean the surgical suite
  • Clean and sterilize surgical instruments
  • Restrain pets for medical treatments and diagnostics according to doctor orders.
  • Ensure treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs are clean, stocked, and organized
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging.
  • Disinfect pet cages after use
  • Laundering and restocking patient bedding using proper cleaning protocols and maintaining hospital cleanliness
  • Be willing to cross-train in other areas when necessary
Salary, Schedule, and Benefits Include (but are not limited to)
  • Salary range for this position is $17 to $21 hourly, commensurate with experience
  • Schedule: Full-time shifts include Monday through Friday and on-call as required by the department
  • The initial training schedule may differ.

Required Qualifications
  • Previous surgical veterinary experience or 6 months of experience in a veterinary hospital
  • Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 50 pounds and work on your feet most of the day.
  • Ability to learn various veterinary software programs effectively
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks appropriately
  • Ability to anticipate and be detail-oriented to provide high patient care.
  • Confidence in themselves, in their abilities, and their team
  • Excellent clear communication skills
  • Must be professional, pleasant, and engaged
  • Must be attentive and demonstrate a high level of respect to referring veterinarians, clients, and co-workers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in veterinary technology or certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program
