Job summary

SurgCenter of Palm Beach Gardens is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical First Assistant to join our outpatient surgical team. The First Assistant will play a critical role in supporting surgeons during procedures, ensuring patient care and safety.

The ideal candidate will hold CSFA/CSA, BLS and ACLS, with at least 2 years of experience in ASC or outpatient settings, and demonstrate strong knowledge of instruments, anatomy, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• CSFA/CSA certification or equivalent recognized in Florida.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 2 years of surgical first assisting experience, preferably in ASC/outpatient setting.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, anatomy, and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during operative procedures, providing exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and other technical functions.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure proper patient positioning, sterile field, and equipment readiness.
• Anticipate the needs of the team and respond to intraoperative requirements.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and procedures to ensure effective first assist.
• Assist with preoperative preparations and postoperative patient care as directed.
• Maintain infection control and sterile technique and patient safety protocols.
• Document intraoperative activities, counts, and patient data as required.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or equivalent credential recognized in the state of Florida.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of surgical first assisting experience, preferably in an outpatient or ASC setting.
• Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, anatomy, and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred:

• Experience in orthopedics, ophthalmology, podiatry, ENT, and/or general surgery.
• Prior experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environment.
• Familiarity with EMR and case documentation standards.
