Job summary

The Texas Water Company seeks a Surface Water Treatment Operator II to operate and maintain potable water facilities, run process control tests, prepare chemicals, and record daily plant data. You will monitor equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

This role requires good mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently, effective communication, and willingness to participate in standby rotations on weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Holds a valid Class C Water Treatment Operator License.
  • Demonstrated experience with water distribution systems and surface water operations.
  • Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s needs or directed by management.
  • Proficiency in respirator use.
  • Proven mechanical abilities.
  • Familiarity with general office software.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently, including problem analysis and solving.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities including lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions, as well as using heavy weight tools and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily production and chemical usage records and calculations.
  • Perform laboratory tests for plant process control.
  • Backwash filters, maintain plant operation records, and periodically check chemical feed and process control equipment.
  • Prepare treatment chemicals and load feeder hoppers and day tanks.
  • Receive, store, and take inventory of plant chemicals and materials.
  • Operate forklifts and other machinery.
  • Perform assigned plant preventive and structure maintenance, and equipment repair.
  • Complete equipment maintenance and repair records, including work orders.
  • Maintain operational documentation, including daily logs, flow settings, unit inspections, chemical dosages, and chemical residuals; periodically test all emergency equipment.
  • Perform assigned plant housekeeping, janitorial, and painting duties.
  • Respond independently to emergency incidents, including all routine and most non‑routine situations.
  • Use respiratory protection frequently and work in confined spaces regularly.
  • Provide input on process improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Train junior staff members on routine work and operations.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
  • Participate in standby rotation and work on weekends and holidays as needed.
