V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Surface Prep Technician to join our team!

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs precision surface preparation operations on various items, including accessories, hardware, and fabricated plastic parts, to achieve specified finishes, remove surface defects and coatings, and prepare surfaces for subsequent processes like painting, plating, or bonding.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Removes coatings, excess material, and surface defects from items using revolving abrasive wheels, belts, and other specialized tools.
  • Blends surface imperfections and coatings to achieve a uniform appearance.
  • Prepares surfaces for subsequent processes, ensuring proper adhesion and finish quality.
  • Smooths surfaces and produces specified finishes by using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Selects abrasive materials, tools, and equipment according to the type of material, finish specification, and coating being removed.
  • Replaces worn abrasive materials and tools.
  • Examines parts for acceptability of finish and conformance to specifications.
  • May be designated according to the type of material or process performed.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, process routings, and specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of various types of metals, plastics, and other materials and their reactions to surface preparation operations.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, abrasive materials, coating removal methods, and blending techniques.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate parts of varying weights and sizes.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance required.
