Job Description

The Surface Mount Assembler A completes product assembly. This involves aligning parts, following work instructions, and checking that work meets quality standards. For the AN/SPQ-9B radar synthesizer product line, the role performs high-reliability assembly and rework of RF and microwave printed circuit and module assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and rework high-reliability surface-mount and through-hole components on RF and microwave printed circuit and module assemblies supporting the AN/SPQ-9B radar synthesizer product line.
• Follow AN/SPQ-9B assembly drawings, work instructions, routing requirements, and workmanship standards, including handling and traceability requirements for controlled components.
• Use ESD and foreign-object-damage prevention practices when handling sensitive electronic components and assemblies.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision while knowing when to seek guidance or elevate issues.
• Perform work instructions to complete product assembly and in accordance to standard work procedures
• Align components and other parts for assembly
• Receive parts and sub-assemblies in work area
• Deliver material to work in process work centers
• Complete pre-assembly work if required
• Ensure that all work meets quality and safety standards and procedures
• Perform quality checks on assembly parts using written test specifications
• Produce and maintain a consistent quality of work while maintaining a clean and safe work environment

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in high-reliability electronic assembly. Experience assembling fine-pitch surface-mount components and RF or microwave printed circuit assemblies is preferred. Current J-STD-001 soldering certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification, is required.
• Dexterity to handle small parts
• Solder preparation: knowledge of preparing solder wire, flux, and other materials before soldering
• Desoldering: ability to remove solder or component from a PCB without causing damage.
• Quality assurance: Ability to inspect soldered work for defects or irregularities.
• High School Diploma or GED
