THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.


This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (Title 32), Position Description Number D1194000, and is part of the AR ARNG FLD MAINT SHOP 6, National Guard.


NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED


Duties
  1. Troubleshoots, performs maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles, including self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, compressors, generators, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, sedans, buses, all-terrain vehicles, trucks, semi-trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. Repairs major systems such as internal combustion engines, turbine engines, transmissions, drive line systems, hydraulic systems, and more. Follows technical manuals, work orders, regulations, and policies.
  2. Uses test equipment like engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, and diagnostic tools to identify mechanical failures. Determines necessary adjustments and additional repairs.
  3. Removes and disassembles engines and assemblies, performs repairs, overhauls, and reassembles systems, making necessary adjustments and tests.
  4. Performs repairs and maintenance in remote locations, providing technical guidance and team leadership. Assists lower-grade mechanics and may perform field and sustainment maintenance. Recovers and evacuates inoperable vehicles.
  5. Conducts readiness and repair inspections, ensures proper servicing, and may serve as a commodity inspector or instruct units on maintenance procedures.
  6. Maintains and repairs electronics communication equipment such as radios, telephones, and amplifiers.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Eligible applicants should contact a recruiter prior to applying. Must possess or initiate a NACI background check, complete pre-placement physical, and attend Full-Time Support training within six months if selected. Must meet all military requirements without creating grade inversion. Enlisted members higher than the maximum grade may apply but must reduce prior to appointment.

Qualifications

General Experience: Knowledge of equipment, routine jobs, preventative maintenance, and use of tools.

Specialized Experience: Thorough knowledge of complex systems, ability to diagnose and repair various vehicles and equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems. Ability to overhaul major components like engines, transmissions, and fuel systems.
