Job summary

Element Biosciences Inc. is seeking a Scientist to join the surface chemistry team in San Diego. You will lead technical execution on defined projects, contribute ideas, and collaborate across functions to translate research into robust, manufacturable products.

The role reports to the Director, Surface Chemistry and emphasizes hands-on lab work. Essential functions include designing experiments, evaluating interfaces, transferring solutions to product development, and communicating findings

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field with strong publication record.
• Experience in surface chemistry and biomolecule-surface interactions.
• Familiarity with cell biology and extracellular matrix interactions.
• Exposure to coatings for cell-based assays or microfluidics is a plus.
• Ability to plan experiments, analyze data, and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and evaluate surface chemistry approaches for NGS and multiomics.
• Lead experiments with guidance from senior scientists and interpret data.
• Support product development, prototyping, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot issues related to surface fouling, binding, or cell compatibility.
• Collaborate with product management, assay development, engineering, and manufacturing.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings.
