Job summary

AtlasBase in South San Francisco is seeking a Research Associate, Surface Chemistry, to drive surface modification and characterization for our semiconductor substrates central to our molecular data storage platform. You will run day-to-day experiments and develop next-generation surface chemistry protocols in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

The ideal candidate is rigorous, detail-oriented, with hands-on experience in surface metrology and bioconjugation, and capable of collaborating

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Hands-on experience developing and executing surface chemistry on solid substrates.
• Experience with surface metrology techniques (ellipsometry, contact angle, AFM).
• Bioconjugation and basic organic lab techniques are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, functionalize, and provide semiconductor substrates for daily experiments.
• Develop and optimize surface chemistry and bioconjugation protocols.
• Conduct routine and advanced surface metrology to characterize substrates.
• Analyze experimental data to guide surface chemistry optimization and troubleshooting.
• Maintain detailed records of all experimental work and analysis.
• Communicate results and next steps to team and leadership.
• Collaborate with synthesis, engineering, sequencing, and bioinformatics teams.
