AtlasBase in South San Francisco is seeking a Research Associate, Surface Chemistry to join a team of scientists and engineers focused on surface modification and characterization of semiconductor substrates for our molecular data storage platform.

The role involves developing protocols, performing metrology analyses, and collaborating across synthesis, engineering, sequencing, and bioinformatics to drive innovation in a high-impact environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years in a relevant field.
• Hands-on experience developing, optimizing, and executing surface chemistry protocols on solid substrates.
• Expertise in surface metrology techniques (ellipsometry, contact angle, electrochemical characterization, AFM).
• Bioconjugation and basic organic lab techniques are a plus.
• Data analysis and scripting experience is desirable.
• Biotech or pharma R&D experience is highly desirable.
• Creative, detail-oriented with strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent collaboration in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, functionalize, and provide semiconductor substrates for daily workflows.
• Develop and optimize surface chemistry and bioconjugation protocols.
• Execute routine and advanced surface metrology to characterize substrates.
• Process and analyze experimental data to guide optimization and troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain detailed records and communicate results to team and leadership.
• Collaborate across synthesis, engineering, sequencing, and bioinformatics teams.
