Job summary

Obsidian is seeking Surety Underwriters and Bond Specialists to design realistic bonding, credit-analysis and bond-claim scenarios, and evaluate model outputs against market standards. You’ll help shape how AI reasons about contractor capacity and obligee requirements.

Role involves creating high-quality work products, providing feedback to the research team, and participating in onboarding and calibration sessions. 20+ hours/week, role starts immediately.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional experience in surety underwriting, bond production, surety claims, or contract-surety credit analysis.
• Ability to read contractor financial statements and WIP schedules and translate them into capacity/credit conclusions.
• Understanding of the three-party surety relationship and indemnity/collateral/subrogation differences from insurance loss payments.

Responsibilities

• Design realistic bonding scenarios (bid, performance, payment, and other bonds) and assess capacity.
• Create work products: capacity recommendations, credit analyses, bond approvals/declinations, obligee reviews, and indemnity requirements.
