Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Surety Claims Intern to support investigations and analysis of commercial and contract surety claims, gaining exposure to the claims lifecycle in a Fortune 100 company.

The internship runs 12 weeks with professional development, networking, and leadership opportunities, and involves working with underwriters on risk-related matters and claims processing within Nationwide’s bonded obligations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience.

Responsibilities

• Review new and existing surety claim demands from claimants and their legal counsel.
• Review and analyze bond terms and conditions as well as documentation submitted by claimants.
• Discuss surety bond principal’s position related to claims and possible defenses.
• Manage outside counsel and review draft pleadings for Nationwide-related litigation.
• Determine steps to process work and recommend resolution or mitigation of claim exposure.
