Qualifications

This job acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit. It involves evaluating nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by the healthcare team of licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient care technicians. The role also includes serving as a resource for patient care assessment, planning, evaluation of nursing interventions, and facilitating problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff. Additionally, it involves identifying staff strengths and weaknesses, and evaluating staff performance within their span of control.

Education
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Science of Nursing (BSN) required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Experience
  • Required: 1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse OR 2 years of experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
  • Preferred: 2 years of relevant experience as a registered nurse.
Certifications
  • Required: Current RN license in the state of practice, Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Ability to work under high pressure.
  • Attention to detail and quick assessment of patient needs.
  • Good organizational skills and ensuring essential supplies are available.
  • Self-directedness.
  • Proficiency in operational indicators such as productivity, expense management, regulatory requirements, and quality indicators.

Job Duties
  • Treating critical injuries, allergic reactions, and trauma.
  • Assessing patient needs and responding to emergencies.
  • Organizing, planning, supervising, and providing patient care within the unit.
  • Supervising and evaluating departmental staff.
  • Promoting evidence-based nursing protocols and guidelines.
  • Managing conflict and collaborating with leadership.
  • Supporting clinical operations, staffing, and supplies.
  • Adapting behavior to the specific patient population.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with laws, standards, and regulations, and maintaining knowledge of current healthcare laws and standards.

Physical and environmental demands include exerting force, exposure to blood and body fluids, and working in a healthcare environment with occupational risks.
