Job summary

Consumers Energy is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for a timebound assignment at JH Campbell Unit 3 in West Olive, MI. You will lead a team of maintenance technicians to keep plant equipment safe, reliable, and efficient during the transition through 2028.

This role requires on-site work, strong leadership, and coordination with Operations and Engineering, with a focus on preventive maintenance, planning, and timely reporting.

Qualifications

Location: This position is onsite at JH Campbell Unit 3 located in West Olive, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
This position is a timebound full-time opportunity designed to support a specific business need with an anticipated duration through cessation of operations and cold and dark activities (retiring the generating facility) transition with an anticipated duration through approximately 2028. As a timebound employee, you will receive competitive compensation and full benefits consistent with company policy. During this assignment, you are not eligible to apply for other opportunities until six months before the conclusion of the assignment. If you are unable to find another role within six months of the assignment end, your employment will be separated.
General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Maintenance Supervisor is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for leading a safe, reliable, and efficient Maintenance Department. This role oversees the daily maintenance operations of industrial facilities and supervises a team of maintenance technicians responsible for equipment repairs, facility maintenance, and ensuring production systems operate effectively and efficiently.

The Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving operational and equipment-related issues while ensuring that production assets are maintained and repaired in a timely and cost-effective manner. This position is also responsible for planning and coordinating maintenance activities, ensuring the effective allocation of personnel, materials, and resources, and collaborating with Operations and Engineering teams to align maintenance schedules with the plant’s operational requirements.

In addition, the Maintenance Supervisor plans and prioritizes work to ensure the appropriate parts, tools, and workforce are assigned to each task. This role schedules maintenance resources to meet the plant’s operational demands while maintaining close coordination with Operations and Engineering partners to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedule and assign work to team members, taking into consideration workload, employee capabilities, skill sets, and equipment requirements.
  • Recommend and implement measures to improve productivity, minimize equipment downtime, and reduce waste.
  • Train new and reassigned employees on job responsibilities, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Investigate equipment and machinery performance concerns and communicate findings and corrective actions to operators and stakeholders.
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance activities on machinery and equipment.
  • Prepare performance-related documentation and maintain accurate labour, time, and production records.
  • Develop, revise, and implement maintenance procedures and schedules in collaboration with Operations and Engineering personnel.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (seven days every six weeks).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive job planning, ensuring appropriate parts, staffing, coordination, permits, and resources are in place before work execution.
  • Schedule maintenance resources to complete emergent, planned, and outage-related work activities.
  • Develop and manage maintenance schedules to support environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and workforce utilization.
  • Provide daily updates to site personnel regarding planned work activities and completed maintenance tasks.
  • Develop outage schedules, perform outage planning activities, and coordinate resources with Operations personnel.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting and documentation of environmental and safety incidents.
  • Coordinate with Operations to identify and establish appropriate work clearance boundaries for planned maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all assigned personnel maintain required training, qualifications, and certifications.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of power plant maintenance practices, including working knowledge of operations and maintenance functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, manage, and motivate employees.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all organisational levels.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment in emergency and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively communicate expectations, assign work, and train personnel.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret technical and operational data and make informed recommendations.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field with two (2) or more years of experience supporting maintenance activities

    • [OR] High school diploma or GED with six (6) or more years of relevant experience
