NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT seeks a Supervisory Electrical Engineer in the Electric Power Systems Engineering Division to lead engineering programs for Navy ships and submarines.
The role includes strategic planning, technical direction, and resource development, with responsibility for electrical analysis, design, and modernization efforts across major Navy programs and fleet support. Strong leadership and collaboration with program managers are essential.
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ELECTRICAL ENGINEER in the Electric Power Systems Engineering Division (SEA 05Z3) in the Marine Engineering Group (SEA 05Z) located in the Naval Systems Engineering and Logistics Directorate (SEA 05) of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT.
You will provide leadership and stewardship, strategic planning, engineering direction and management, workforce and workload supervision, and resource development and allocation decision-making for the Electric Power Systems Engineering Division.
You will direct/manage the overall development efforts for major Navy program assignments and in-service fleet support that require the application of scientific and systems engineering theories, concepts, and principles.
You will be responsible for electrical analysis and design of Naval ships/submarines.
You will be responsible for generation support, concept studies, preliminary and contract design, development of major Shipalts, major modernizations, conversions and repairs, development advanced analytical methods, conversions and repairs.
You will perform special studies and will participate in special project teams located in any part of the Naval Sea Systems Command, and act as the Navy's authoritative expert in the professional field.
You will consult with Ship Design/ Program Mgrs, Technical Warrant Holders, Deputy Warranting Officers, Chief Engineer, Program Executive Office, Portfolio Acquisition Executives and Direct Reporting Program Mgrs, Naval Reactors, and top officials.
You will plan future engineering aspects of program development, deployment, operation and maintenance.
You will advise on application of state of the art thermodynamics, electrical and other physical, mathematical and engineering sciences to problems concerned with the production, transmission, measurement and use of energy.
You will plan/conduct investigations, risk assessments, analyses/design modifications of subsystems/equipment for facilities, systems, equipment/instruments, transmission measurement, control/use of electrical power/ integrated power systems.
You will evaluate factors affecting system performance characteristics, e.g., electrical power generation, distribution and storage, electrical engineering aspects associated with production and distribution.
You will review and evaluate the possible overall effect more critical changes (in equipment, operation, and maintenance) will have on a product.
You will advise Fleet, SECNAV, OPNAV, NAVSEA, and field activities on difficult or controversial matters, such as modifying systems to meet new, demanding performance requirements.
You will advise on how to deal with new theories of technologies for which no precedent exists, plan for future system expansion, or cope with emergencies.
You will represent NAVSEA as the agency's authoritative officer for reaching engineering compromises and agreements with management and engineers inside/outside of NAVSEA as well as contractors.
In addition to the basic education requirement, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level pay band, NH-03 (GS-13 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer managing engineering projects on the design, development, operation, maintenance, or sustainment of shipboard electrical systems (e.g. generators, power converters, transformers, power electronic drives, propulsion motors, electrical actuators, energy storage, batteries, electro-chemical energy storage, circuit protectin (circuit breakers, arc fault detectors), switchboards, cables and cableways, lighting, and/or motors and controllers) for surface ships or submarines.
