A nonprofit mental health agency is seeking a part-time Supportive Housing Assistant in Hackensack, NJ. The assistant will provide community referrals, assist individuals with housing needs, and support the operations of the Bergen County Supportive Housing Program. Candidates should have a high school diploma and two years of mental health experience, alongside excellent communication skills and knowledge of community resources. Bilingual skills and a valid NJ driver's license are also preferred.

Job description

CSPNJ a mental health nonprofit agency is looking for a part‑time Supportive Housing Assistant. Under the direct supervision of the Supportive Housing Coordinator the SHA will perform a variety of administrative duties that support the Coordinator and the operations and success of the Bergen County Supportive Housing Program.

Highlights
  • Assess person's served needs and provide information and community referrals including clothing, food, shelter, housing services, rental assistance, general assistance, etc.
  • Play a critical role in facilitating access to housing services, ensuring that individuals and families find safe, affordable, and appropriate living arrangements.
  • Stays abreast of community resources available to assist persons served through financial, healthcare, educational and other services that may be needed.

Part‑time | 12 hours p/w| NJESL Eligible

Requirements
  • High School diploma / GED with 2 years of mental health experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication, writing, assessment skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of community resources and how to access them.
  • Experience with real estate and knowledge of State and local housing regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate to a diverse population in a multicultural environment.
  • Proven ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses using empathy, professionalism, and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus!
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their life experience with a mental health diagnose or substance use to inspire and support others.
