Anchor Bay School District Lighthouse Elementary School in New Baltimore, Michigan is seeking a part-time Supported Kindergarten Special Education Para to assist in a stimulating SPED classroom, support the lead teacher, and help with daily routines for students. Hours: 6.5 per day.

Duties include classroom setup, supervision, transportation assistance, family communication, and ensuring records and safety.

Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.

  • Communicate with parents and maintain complete records.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by administrator.

Job Description
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing, planning and providing a stimulating and enriching special education classroom environment;
  • Maintain positive encouragement, classroom management and adult-child interactions at all times;
  • Assist teacher with classroom set up, preparation of class materials, snack and snack menu;
  • Assist & supervise children to & from the restrooms, including assisting with toileting;
  • Assist teacher with bus arrivals, departures and riding the bus with students when necessary;
  • Conduct/participate in group and work time activities according to teacher directions;
  • Prepare children’s cupboards for going home folders, papers, projects, etc.;
  • Assist teacher with communication and involvement with parents;
  • Assist with assuring that all children’s records are complete, and
  • Complete other duties, related to position, as directed by the building administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess current certification in CPR for infant, child and adult and First Aid or teh ability to obtain;
  • Ability to work independently with special education students;
  • Ability to keep order while motivating, inspiring, and insuring a safe, positive and welcoming learning environment;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with parents and school staff;
  • Ability to physically participate in student activities in classroom, on playground, and during special events.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function;

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Personal computer skills necessary. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
