Ponca City Public Schools East Middle School in Ponca City, Oklahoma is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to provide adult support to a small group of students or one-on-one to assist with educational goals.

The position supports students in transportation, meals, classroom activities, and personal care; requires basic paraprofessional credentials and completion of OSDE requirements. Flexible 169-day schedule with 6.75 hours per day.

Qualifications

• 48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Completion of Paraprofessional Training as Required by the OSDE
• CPI Certificate
• CPR and First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

• Monitors students on district provided transportation and assists students getting on or off buses and vans.
• Accompanies students to the cafeteria for meals and assists students with getting and eating meals and cleaning up after meals.
• Accompanies students to classes or therapy services, monitors behavior (intervening as needed), and assists with classwork.
• Assists students with motor, balance, social and life skills.
• Assists students with personal care, including dressing, toileting and diapering.
• Monitors students during nap times.
• Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.
• Assists with instruction, errands and copies related to assigned student(s).
• Attends IEP and other meetings and trainings as requested.
• Alerts assigned teacher of concerns related to the student.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information.
• Complies with all federal, state and local laws, and board policies and procedures.
• Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.
• Assists teacher in monitoring students’ progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.
• Reinforces learning in small groups or with an individual student, while the teacher works with other students.
• Assists the teacher in observing, recording and charting behavior.
• Assists the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.
• Provides one-on-one tutoring if it is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.
• Scores objective tests and papers and maintains appropriate records for teachers.
• Carries out instructional programs designed by the teacher.
• Works with the teacher to develop classroom schedules.
• Operates and maintains classroom equipment.
• Takes over a class for a short period of time.
• Supervises children in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground.
• To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings.
• An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
• Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.

Employment Terms:169 day Contract, 6.75 Hours per Day, Exclusive of a Lunch

FLSA Classification: Nonexempt

Evaluation: Annually by Site Principal
