Job summary

Middlebury College is seeking a full-time custodial/Facilities Support position in Vermont. The role supports custodial, waste management, landscape services, mail center, event support, moving/delivery, and dining operations with a focus on nimble, efficient service.

The position offers benefits and a hiring range of $18.81 - $22.37 per hour. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and relevant custodial/maintenance experience, plus driving experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years custodial, floor care, maintenance experience preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of driving experience; preference for large vans/box trucks.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains institutional equipment to support campus operations.
• Cleans, maintains, and disinfects interior and exterior facilities.
• Provides moving and delivery service and organizes warehousing.
• Moves and resets furniture for events per diagrams and instructions.
• Follows protocols for safely cleaning substances potentially containing bloodborne pathogens.
• Maintains campus grounds: mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, mulching, snow removal.
• Works cooperatively with others and follows supervisor directions; performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position provides support to various work groups within the Operations Department to assist with carrying out the departments work in a nimble, efficient, and streamlined manner. Work groups/tasks include: custodial, waste management, landscape services, mail center, event support, moving and delivery, and dining.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $18.81 - $22.37 per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

• Operates and maintains Institutional equipment to complete assigned tasks in an efficient and safe manner in order to support campus operations including event support and maintaining/restoring institutional assets on a day to day basis as well as periodic restoration projects.
• Cleans, maintains, and disinfects all interior and exterior components of college facilities including contents.
• Provides moving and delivery service, organizes warehousing and monitors all campus storage.
• Moves and resets furniture on routine basis for new or normal set ups, including for events based on provided diagrams and instructions.
• Follows established protocols and provided training to effectively and safely clean up substances potentially containing bloodborne pathogens.
• Maintenance and care of campus grounds. Tasks including but not limited to: mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, mulching, and snow removal duties.
• Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from team liaison and supervisors. Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission. Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental practices and procedures.

Requirements

• Demonstrates professional communication skills with ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, and the rest of College community and supply/equipment vendors.
• Ability to develop and follow a schedule and demonstrates excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must be able to read and accurately interpret floor plans and accurately execute event diagrams and associated written instructions.
• High School Diploma or GED required. 3 years experience in custodial, floor care, maintenance trades and associated equipment operation preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years driving experience required with a preference for experience driving large vans and/or box trucks.
• Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently and as a team with minimal direction from supervisor.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical abilities include: frequent, lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, walking, reaching overhead and stair /ladder climbing required.Work is performed in multiple different buildings on a daily basis requiring the need to move between buildings through out the shift in various forms of weather.Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime.Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of a regular or rotating work shift.Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and be able to respond to a high volume of requests.
