Job summary

Lawrence General Hospital, Inc. seeks a Support Service Specialist to assist both Pre-Analytical and Analytic laboratory operations, ensuring seamless patient care.

You will greet patients, verify identity, register and expedite tests, educate on specimen collection, manage in-house and outreach inventory, and ship specimens to the reference lab. This role requires a high school diploma and basic computer skills with medical terminology; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related science is

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and confirm identity.
• Register, test ordering and expediting samples in the lab.
• Ensure insurance eligibility at encounters.
• Maintain standing orders/test orders within regulatory timeframe.
• Educate patients on collection and tests.
• Oversee inventory management of lab supplies (in-house and outreach).
• Process, package, and ship specimens to the reference lab.
• Work in Microbiology lab as a specimen planter when needed.
• Notify Lab Management of any concerns regarding staff, patients, or physicians.

Job description

As the Support Service Specialist, you will be asked to support both Pre-Analytical and Analytical areas of the laboratory to ensure seamless operation for quality patient care.

• Greets patients and pleasantly introduces oneself and confirms identification utilizing the two LGH patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
• Perform registration, test ordering and expedition of samples throughout the laboratory.
• Maintain competence and ensure insurance eligibility is completed at every encounter.
• Maintain standing orders/test orders from physician offices within the regulatory timeframe.
• Educate patients with instruction for urinalysis collection, scheduling a cortrosyn stimulation test, glucose tolerance test, and semen analysis.
• Oversee inventory management of laboratory supplies in-house and for outreach sites.
• Process, package, and ship specimens to be sent to the reference laboratory.
• Competent to work in the Microbiology lab as a specimen planter.
• Keeps Laboratory Management informed of any unusual concerns, situations, or conditions relative to staff, patients, and physicians.
