Job Overview

The Support Aide position is responsible for cleaning patient rooms, offices, corridors, utility rooms and other assigned areas of the hospital. Duties include dusting, wiping, polishing, mopping, collecting soiled linen and disposing of it to the dirty utility room. The role also assists with room and furniture set up, stripping and refinishing floors, operating the Chariot burnishing machine, and shampooing carpets.

Essential Functions

• Clean patient rooms, offices, corridors, utility rooms and other assigned areas.
• Dust surfaces that collect dust, wipe clean all furniture, clean and polish metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms.
• Required to be on their feet most of the work day, including bending, stooping and stretching.
• Observe in daily performance, report need for repairs to equipment, furniture and building fixtures, respond to hospital fire and disaster drills, and buff or burnish floors with 17-inches and 20-inches machines, including rotary buffer.
• Collect soiled linen from patient areas to dirty utility room and transport by pushing cart to lower level soiled linen room for laundry pick-up.
• Collect and store medical waste and may be required to collect, replace and store sharps containers.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.
• Dust mops, damp mops and vacuums carpets in all areas of the hospital.
• Empty trash/waste baskets, remove trash and may transport trash from utility rooms and other collection points to proper pick up areas.
• Perform a variety of special projects such as cleaning air induction units, light fixtures, windows, etc.
• Interact and team in a positive manner with coworkers to accomplish hospital goals and objectives for effective patient care.
• Move furniture and set up meeting rooms.
• Assist in cleaning spills observed or requested, and maintain all assigned equipment in a clean and efficient working manner.
• Work with a constant concern for the safety of all persons (patients, visitors, etc.).
