Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks a seasoned procurement professional to manage the purchase of complex materials and services for the O52 Outsourcing and Supplier Oversight team. You will evaluate bids, select suppliers, and negotiate terms to ensure timely, quality delivery of orders. Responsibilities include following awards through to completion, visiting suppliers, and potentially leading junior staff.

Travel is up to 10%. Full-time, first shift in Newport News, VA; U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s degree or equivalent experience also considered.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be accepted as listed in the job posting.
• Experience in manufacturing, shipbuilding, or related technical fields is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Purchases a variety of complex or technical materials, supplies or services.
• Evaluates bids, selects and negotiates with suppliers for price, delivery, quality and service.
• Follows up on all awards until order completion; negotiates and settles claims with suppliers.
• Conducts supplier site visits and rates production capability, performance and delivery; may lead lower level staff.

The Role

Responsible for purchasing a variety of complex or technical materials, supplies or services. Evaluates bids, selects and recommends suppliers and negotiates price, delivery, quality and service. Follows up on all awards until completion of order. Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over shipments, cancellations and engineering changes. Conducts supplier site visits and rates them as to production capability, performance and delivery. May provide work leadership for lower level employees. Excludes those with full supervisory responsibilities.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
