Job summary

HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking a procurement professional to manage high-volume material acquisitions, evaluate bids, and negotiate terms with suppliers. The role involves following through orders, handling claims, and visiting supplier sites to assess capability and delivery performance.

Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of exempt experience (or a Master’s with 1 year), and may meet minimums via equivalent credentials listed by HII.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 1 year of relevant professional experience
  • One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications: NNPS graduate; 2-year program plus 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience; Military Paygrade E-5 or above; High School/GED plus 4–8 years in Manufacturing/Shipbuilding/Military/related fields

  • Purchases a high volume and variety of materials, supplies and services.
  • Evaluates bids, selects and negotiates price, delivery, quality and service.
  • Follows up on all awards until completion of order.
  • Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, returns, over shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
  • Conducts supplier site visits and rates them as to production capability, performance and delivery.

The Role

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 1 years of relevant professional experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
