Job summary

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education seeks a Development/Content Instructor to design and oversee a professional program in Supply Chain Management. You will create the curricula matrix and review program proposals, ensuring alignment with course design and market needs.

You will work with a Learning Experience Designer and other partners to deliver high-quality, adult-focused learning experiences, while managing milestones under a part-time, exempt by-agreement arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in SCM, logistics, operations management, industrial engineering, business, or adjacent field.
• 7-10+ years in supply chain with deep procurement, logistics, inventory, planning, and operations expertise.
• Knowledge of end-to-end supply chain processes and technologies (ERP, SAP, Oracle, WMS, TMS) including risk and ESG.
• Strong communication to translate SCM topics for professionals with varying experience.
• Experience developing curricula or programs for adult or professional learners within a structured process.

Job description

Under the general supervision of Instructor Services, the Content/Development Instructor will collaborate with UC Davis support team members to develop an online learning experience that will be delivered as the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Professional Program in Supply Chain Management (SCM). This is a "work for hire" assignment focused on designing the program and creating the course product. The timeframe will be established as part of the planning for development and will be agreed to by all parties. The Development/Content Instructor will be the principal subject matter expert for this offering. The primary responsibility of the Development/Content Instructor will be to create the curricula matrix for the entire professional program and to review and provide guidance on the overall UC Davis CPE Program Proposal including the product type, courses, prerequisites, target market, and course design. The Development/Content Instructor must be highly credible with deep domain expertise. This position is a Development/Content Instructor only with the possibility of a Teaching Instructor position at a future date. This role is explicitly collaborative: program design decisions, learning architecture, assessment strategy in collaboration with a Learning Experience Designer (LxD), who is responsible for instructional quality, alignment with learning outcomes, and adherence to UC Davis instructional standards.

The target audience for this UC Davis CPE professional program in Supply Chain Management is mid-level professionals in supply chain adjacent roles (logistics, procurement, manufacturing operations, warehouse supervisors, transportation analysts, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, operations management, industrial engineering, business administration, or adjacent field.
• 7-10 + years of professional experience in supply chain management with deep expertise in procurement and sourcing, logistics and transposition, inventory management, demand planning and forecasting, manufacturing operations, distribution and warehousing, supply chain analytics, and global supply chain management or in a closely related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of end-to-end supply chain process, supply chain technologies (ERP, SAP, Oracle, WMS, TMS), risk management strategies, and sustainability and ESG considerations in supply chains.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to translate technical SCM topics into accessible and relevant learning experiences for professionals with varying levels of supply chain experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing curricula, courses, or educational programs for adult or professional learners. Demonstrated ability to work within a structured curriculum-development process, collaborate with instructional designers, program staff, subject-matter experts, and other partners, and reliably meet project milestones and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or higher degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Operations Management or similar fields.
• Relevant professional certification such as Certified Chain Professional (CSP), CPIM, CLTD, PMP or similar certifications
• Experience developing education or training for professionals in continuing education programs including knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Canvas).
• Experience with developing applied, project-based, or experiential learning initiatives in professional or workforce education contexts.

Appointment

The CPE Instructor position is an exempt by-agreement appointment. The incumbent will be hired into the UC Davis payroll title of Teacher-University Extension Contract YR and will be subject to Federal and State Income Tax Withholdings.

Compensation

Compensation will be a set amount assigned based on the nature of the work, such as course development, instructional services, or coaching sessions.

Position is not eligible for UC health & welfare benefits. As a by-agreement instructor, the employment is considered "part-time" and will participate in the Defined Contribution Plan (the "DC Plan") as a Safe Harbor participant. By-Agreement instructors are automatically enrolled in the DC Plan per their eligible appointment. Safe Harbor participants contribute 7.5% of their wages, on a pretax basis, in lieu of contributing to Social Security.
