Crane Company is seeking a Supply Chain Intern to execute the supply chain strategy for assigned commodities, driving lowest total cost, reduced inventory, and improved on-time delivery and quality.

You will collaborate with site supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams to lead supplier bids, negotiate contracts, support new product introductions, and advance continuous improvement initiatives.

Job description

Position Summary:

The supply chain intern is responsible for executing the supply chain strategy for assigned commodities. Accountable and responsible for developing and implementing a supply chain strategy that; delivers the lowest total cost, reduces inventory, and maximizes customer satisfaction through world class on time delivery, lead time and quality metrics. Lead/Support quality improvement initiatives as per IATF 16949-2016 to achieve set sigma level for value stream. Guide production team on issue resolution using knowledge relevant to your department specialties.

Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):

• For assigned commodities, develop and lead the execution of supply chain strategy that supports Crane Resistoflex objectives for Material Cost Reduction, Supplier OTD, Inventory Reduction, Supplier Quality, and Supplier Lead Times. This would include actions to rationalize the supply base, drive increased sourcing from low-cost sources, leverage the material spend with other Crane business units, and negotiate and implement Supplier Agreements.
• Maintain awareness of world markets and emerging material related issues in the industry and position the supply chain to flexibly respond accordingly.
• Establish and facilitate strategic teams to leverage supplier capabilities in product design, cost reduction, lead time reduction and customer satisfaction.
• Work closely with the site supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams to proactively identify and develop external capability to support strategic productivity savings.
• Plan and monitor implementation of re-sourcing initiatives to successfully prime supplier’s supply chains for initial production to ensure uninterrupted flow of product to customers as required. Oversee and facilitate multilevel material planning to ensure the integrity of the supplier’s supply chain in support of planned deliverables.
• Obtain competitive bids, analyse costs, and negotiate/award contracts to vendors based on total costs to the company commensurate with financial risks, quality standards, and delivery capabilities.
• Leverage technology solutions to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of the strategic sourcing process.
• Drive increasing inventory turns by developing, implementing, and managing innovative material replenishment processes, including, but not limited to Kanbans, vendor managed inventory, and supplier consignments.
• Drive continuous improvement in the supply base by communicating objective performance metrics, focused on lead time reduction, on-time delivery improvement, quality improvement, and cost reduction.
• Provide effective support to new product introduction teams, proposal development, and subcontracting opportunities.
• Engender a spirit of cooperation throughout the supply chain to ensure responsiveness to the customer.
• Participate in quality improvements as per IATF 16949 2016 ensure to complete toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, Process capability study for in house process
• Ensure requirements of relevant standards like ISO 9001-2015, PED 2014/68/EU, API Spec. Q1, API 6D, etc. are being consistently met and improved.

Essential Qualifications / Experience:

• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Self-starter with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions. This will Include a strong working knowledge of work processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling software.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment.
• Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up, down, and across organizational lines.
• Willingness to travel 5%
• In progress of achieving B.S. or B.A. in supply chain, business, or related field.
• Customer-oriented focus with a creative, aggressive, and winning attitude.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a Supply Chain related role.
• Broad knowledge of the marketplace and manufacturing technologies for assigned commodities.
• In depth knowledge of supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics.
• Direct experience implementing lean concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc.).
• Prior experience implementing a pull system/kanban approach to component flow.
• Experience with eSourcing tools and global sourcing.
