Our client is a fast-growing, direct-to-consumer (B2C) consumer packaged goods (CPG) brand with an outsourced manufacturing model, selling through e-commerce, social commerce, and third party retail channels.
Role Overview
The Director of Supply Chain will design, implement, and lead the company's end-to-end supply chain across forecasting, demand planning, sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management. This is a build-and-run role: you will set up the processes, systems, and KPIs, then own day-to-day execution.
You will manage a network of outsourced contract manufacturers and suppliers. You will make sure the right product is in the right place for website, social, and retail demand. You will partner closely with the CEO and leaders in marketing, e-commerce, finance, and operations, and translate growth plans into a supply plan that protects margin and service levels.
This role is hands-on and strategic. You will run daily supply chain operations – and on top of that, set strategy, own the budget, and teach and develop a team that grows with the company.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupply Chain Strategy and Leadership
- Design and implement a scalable, multi-year supply chain strategy and network that supports aggressive growth across DTC, social commerce, and broadcast retail channels.
- Serve as the senior supply chain voice on the executive team, advising the CEO on channel expansion, supplier strategy, and capacity investments.
- Own the supply chain budget, inventory investment, and COGS targets; partner with finance on gross margin, cash flow, and working capital.
- Build the function's operating model: processes, policies, planning calendar, and KPIs (forecast accuracy, fill rate, on-time-in-full, inventory turns, days of supply, landed cost).
- Lead a team of 3–5 across forecasting, planning and purchasing.
- Present supply chain performance, risks, and investment recommendations to the CEO and leadership team.
Daily Operations
- Run day-to-day supply chain operations alongside the team: stock levels, open POs, production status, inbound shipments, and fulfillment.
- Manage the order-to-delivery process so shipping deadlines are met across every channel.
- Resolve supply disruptions, delays, and quality issues in real time.
- Stay hands‑on in purchasing, supplier communication, and production follow‑up as the team grows.
Team Leadership and Mentoring
- Teach the team the full picture of supply chain: how forecasting, sourcing, purchasing, production, and fulfillment connect and drive cost, margin, and the customer experience.
- Coach and mentor each team member through regular one‑on‑ones, development plans, and stretch assignments.
- Cross‑train the team so members can cover for one another and grow into broader roles.
- Treat each team member's success and career growth as a core measure of this role's performance.
Forecasting and Demand Planning
- Own the demand forecast at the SKU level for every sales channel.
- Build forecasts that account for promotions, product launches, influencer and social campaigns, seasonality, and live broadcast airings with short, high-volume demand spikes.
- Lead a monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process with marketing, e-commerce, and finance.
- Set inventory targets and safety stock levels that balance service levels, working capital, and shelf‑life/obsolescence risk.
Sourcing and Supplier Management
- Identify, qualify, and onboard contract manufacturers and suppliers, domestic and international.
- Source primary and secondary packaging materials against cost, quality, MOQ, and lead‑time targets.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, MOQs, and supply agreements; run competitive bids and cost‑reduction programs.
- Manage supplier performance through scorecards, business reviews, and corrective action plans.
- Build supply resilience through dual sourcing, risk mitigation, and contingency planning.
Purchasing and Inventory
- Set purchasing strategy, policies, and approval controls for finished goods and all packaging; manage POs through receipt, hands‑on and with the team.
- Coordinate deliveries to contract manufacturers so production runs start on time.
- Manage inventory across the in‑house warehouse and contract manufacturer sites.
- Oversee import logistics with freight forwarders and customs brokers, including landed‑cost tracking and tariff exposure.
Production Planning and Oversight
- Translate the demand plan into a production schedule with each contract manufacturer.
- Protect the confidentiality of proprietary product specifications shared with manufacturing partners.
- Partner with quality and regulatory resources on specifications, lot traceability, batch records, and product compliance.
- Track production status, yields, and lead times; resolve delays before they affect customers.
- Support new product development from concept through first production run, including packaging development timelines.
Distribution and Fulfillment
- Oversee the company's in‑house warehouse and DTC fulfillment: receiving, storage, pick/pack/ship, cycle counts, returns, and warehouse staffing.
- Meet the inbound routing, labeling, and delivery requirements of broadcast and retail partners.
- Optimize parcel and freight costs, delivery speed, and order accuracy.
- Systems and Analytics
- Operate company's ERP, WMS, inventory management, and planning tools as the business scales.
- Integrate supply data with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Amazon) and finance systems.
- Build dashboards and reporting that give leadership real‑time visibility into inventory, open POs, and supply risk.
Qualifications Required
- 10+ years of progressive supply chain experience, including 5+ years in a senior supply chain leadership role (senior manager or director) leading a team across multiple supply chain functions, while staying hands‑on in daily operations.
- Experience in a CPG company with DTC/e‑commerce channels; experience with broadcast, video‑commerce, or major retail partners strongly preferred.
- Proven success designing and managing an outsourced model with multiple contract manufacturers and third‑party suppliers.
- Ownership of a supply chain budget and inventory investment decisions, with a track record of improving gross margin and working capital.
- Track record of teaching, mentoring, and promoting team members; and of building forecasting, SOP, and inventory planning processes from the ground up and leading them at the executive level.
- Hands‑on experience sourcing packaging and managing their lead times, MOQs, and quality.
- International sourcing and import experience, including suppliers in Asia, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and tariff strategy.
- Strong negotiation skills, with documented cost savings and supply agreements negotiated at the executive level.
- Experience implementing and optimizing ERP and advanced planning systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar) – not only day‑to‑day MRP use.
- Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills: landed cost, scenario planning, and capacity planning.
- Experience working in regulated consumer products with lot traceability and quality documentation requirements.
Preferred
- Bachelors or professional certification (APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP, ISM CPSM).
- Experience at a high‑growth or founder‑led brand scaling from early stage to significant revenue.
- Experience running an in‑house warehouse and DTC fulfillment operation, including warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Working proficiency in Mandarin or Spanish for supplier communication.
