The Supplier Tooling Engineer will be responsible for Supplier Tooling strategies and quotations, while working with Product Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing Engineering to optimize part design and tooling strategies to reduce cost, improve quality and add value.
Key responsibilities
- Supplier Tooling for Stampings, Castings, Cold Forming, Spring Winding, Welding and Plastic components
- Ensure suppliers are compliant with Supplier Tooling processes, procedures, and forms
- Maintain accurate tooling records in the Tooling Database
- Communicate effectively with others utilizing appropriate methods including conference calls, email, and visits to ensure proper exchange of information
- Support Purchasing with supplier tooling quotes to ensure proper labor and machine rates are used per region
- Identify annual cost savings activities and opportunities
- Review supplier tooling refurbishment requests and support sale activities to retrieve funds from the customer
- Support tool audits per customer requirements
- Support tool transfers to new suppliers
- Participate in tooling design reviews and provide final approval before kicking off tools
Requirements - education & experience
- Bachelor\'s degree in engineering or minimum of 5 years tooling industry experience required
- Must have plastic injection molding experience
- Experience running tools or sourcing tools
- Experience in stamping/plastic manufacturing preferred
- Experience with tool shops, OEM, Tooling suppliers, or Tier 1 environments
Required skills
- Proficient with standard PC software (MS Office, MS Project)
- Ability to use CAD software to review 3D models (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or AutoCAD)
- Basic understanding of GD&T
- Mold flow knowledge and ability to review design and process it
- Good computer skills and ability to navigate apps and software
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under demanding situations
- Works effectively in a team environment
- Strong degree of self-motivation and self-direction
Nice-to-have / preferred skills
- Knowledge of stamping
- Knowledge of tooling cost differences across countries
Position will require 25% travel to supplier locations both domestically and internationally.
