Job summary

Siemens Energy in Charlotte seeks a Supplier Quality Expert to drive supplier qualifications, audits, and complex quality issue resolution across the transformer supplier base. The role emphasizes ISO standards, risk management, and embedding quality from design through production in partnership with Procurement, Engineering and Manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a engineering discipline (Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial/Materials/Manufacturing).
  • 8+ years in supplier quality, quality engineering or related field in energy/transformer sectors.
  • Lead supplier quality initiatives including audits, escalations and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier quality management across assigned commodities and suppliers.
  • Drive supplier qualification, audits, and compliance programs per ISO 9001/14001/45001 and VDA 6.3 where applicable.
  • Improve performance via nonconformance management, root cause analysis and CAPA.
  • Mentor team members and coordinate priorities in a matrix environment.
  • Collaborate with Suppliers, Procurement, Engineering and Manufacturing to embed quality from design to production.

How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Lead Supplier Quality Management activities across assigned commodities and suppliers supporting power transformer manufacturing, providing technical expertise and defining quality strategies that support commodity plans, supply chain resilience, localization, and business growth.
  • Drive supplier qualification, audit, and compliance programs, including supplier process and product qualification, readiness assessments, risk management, and audits aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and, where applicable, VDA 6.3 standards.
  • Improve supplier quality performance by leading nonconformance management, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, supplier development and recovery plans, Quality Assurance Agreements, KPI monitoring, continuous improvement initiatives, and supplier cost recovery activities.
  • Serve as the technical lead for the Supplier Quality Management team, coordinating priorities and workload, supporting consistent execution, acting as the primary escalation point for complex supplier quality issues, and mentoring team members to strengthen capabilities and performance.
  • Represent Supplier Quality in product and technology development projects while building strong partnerships with suppliers, Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and other stakeholders to ensure quality requirements are integrated from design through production.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with safety requirements, identifying and mitigating risks, and promoting safe work practices during supplier visits and all business activities.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, Manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline, with 8+ years of progressive experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field within the energy, transmission, heavy electrical equipment, or similar industries. Some power transformer industry experience is required. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice versa.
  • Proven experience leading complex supplier quality initiatives, including supplier qualifications, development programs, audits, escalations, and cross-functional corrective action activities.
  • Advanced expertise in quality and risk management methodologies, including structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, 8D, corrective and preventative action, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and supplier quality management tools and processes.
  • Strong auditing and quality systems knowledge, including ISO 9001, with Lead Auditor certification preferred; experience conducting first- or second-party audits against ISO 9001 and/or VDA 6.3 standards is highly valued.
  • Deep technical knowledge of power transformer materials, components, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, standards, inspection requirements, and supplier process controls to develop effective qualification and quality plans.
  • Demonstrated technical and operational leadership skills, including work prioritization, task coordination, coaching, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, decision-making, and influencing outcomes within cross-functional and matrixed environments without formal authority.
  • Strong analytical, project management, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience leveraging quality systems, data analysis, and digital tools to drive performance; ability to manage multiple priorities, assess risk, and work effectively with multicultural, geographically distributed teams and suppliers. Fluency in English is required; additional language skills such as Spanish are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
