Job summary

Google is hiring a Supplier Quality Engineer for Networking to own quality and reliability across OEM networking hardware deployed in Google's global network.

You will collaborate with Hardware Engineering and Network Operations to enforce requirements, lead NPI reliability validation, and drive cost improvements through data-driven decisions. Field data analysis and root-cause methods will shape supplier improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing or supplier quality/reliability for networking/data center hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Own supplier quality and reliability performance for OEM networking hardware in the global network.
  • Define and enforce quality requirements with Hardware Engineering and Network Operations to improve fleet availability and TCO.
  • Lead supplier engagement during NPI phases to ensure design, process, and test readiness for scale.
  • Investigate field quality issues with root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Define and track supplier KPIs and conduct supplier audits focused on process control and quality systems.

Job description

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing in supplier quality, reliability, or hardware quality engineering for networking, server, or data center infrastructure.
Preferred qualifications:
  • 8 years of experience in supplier quality, reliability, or hardware quality engineering for networking, server, or data center infrastructure.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) environments working directly with OEM supplier and leading cross-functional technical initiatives involving failure analysis (FA), quality systems, and root cause resolution.
  • Experience with networking hardware systems including switches, routers, line cards, optics, power, and thermal management, and with data analysis and scripting tools such as Python, SQL, or equivalent.
  • Ability to architect new operational frameworks and drive technical clarity in ambiguous, non-standardized environments.
  • Knowledge of hardware reliability engineering and formal quality management systems.
  • Ability to distill and present complex technical issues to both engineering teams and executive leadership.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer for Networking, you will join the team responsible for setting and managing the quality and reliability standards for our OEM Router and Optical Transport products. You will collaborate to drive supplier development and ongoing performance management to Google's technology and business needs. You are direct and have extensive involvement in the tools and techniques used to assess product quality and reliability. You have solid partner management skills and love to sift through data and use it to drive design or process improvements.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will manage the OEM supplier quality and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. You will collaborate with Commodity Managers and Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications and to make sure we maximize multi-sourcing for each product. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $120000 - $172000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities:
  • Own supplier quality and reliability performance for OEM networking hardware deployed across Google’s global network.
  • Partner with Hardware Engineering and Network Operations to define and enforce quality and reliability requirements. Influence design, sourcing, and deployment decisions to improve fleet availability, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Lead supplier engagement during NPI phases to ensure design, process, and test readiness for scale. Drive reliability validation and risk assessment, including accelerated stress testing and lifetime modeling.
  • Investigate and resolve field quality and reliability issues, performing deep root-cause analysis and leading corrective and preventive actions with suppliers. Analyze large-scale field data to identify trends, predict failures, and prevent systemic issues.
  • Define and track supplier KPIs and hold suppliers accountable to continuous improvement and conduct supplier audits focused on process control, quality systems, and reliability practices.
