Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer
The main function of a Supplier Quality Engineer is to serve as the technical liaison between purchasing, product engineering, internal manufacturing, and external suppliers. This role involves resolving supplier manufacturing issues, implementing advanced quality planning systems, and providing technical support throughout the lifecycle of a commodity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and PPAP submission and approval requirements.
- Review and approve supplier quality plans for new component parts and assemblies for vehicle and powertrain programs.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes.
- Identify root causes of manufacturing problems and develop effective, timely quality resolutions.
- Enhance supplier quality performance through onsite workshops, technical assistance, and support.
- Provide technical assistance during supplier launches, change-overs, and ongoing production activities.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of automotive interior, exterior, body, chassis, electrical, or powertrain quality, manufacturing, and engineering functions.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality processes.
- Understanding of Manufacturing and Tool Engineering processes.
- Proficiency in Quality Systems Planning (APQP) and PPAP.
- Ability to perform statistical problem solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).
- Extensive experience with specific commodities/products.
- Leadership skills and motivation.
- Proficient in print reading, measurement, gage design, and function.
- Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing/assembly processes.
- Statistical quality control and design of experiments knowledge.
- Strong technical judgment for quality problem investigation.
- Project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering (preferred).
- Technical and Quality Certifications.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
