Job summary

Whirlpool Corporation in Tulsa, OK is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to drive a zero-defect mindset and Lean/Six Sigma initiatives across the supplier base. You will lead cross-functional teams to resolve issues from design through production and ensure robust PPAP and RMA processes.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering or science, 2+ years in manufacturing, and 1+ years with 8D, FMEA, or PPAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• 1+ years of experience with 8D, Drill Deep Drill Wide, 5 Why, Kaizen, FMEA, or PPAP.
• Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt preferred.
• 4+ years in Supplier Quality or a quality role in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Champion root cause analysis/8D/kaizens and implementation of corrective/preventive actions for top failures with cross-functional teams.
• Identify, analyze and solve problems by leading cross functional improvement teams.
• Establish specific short/long term quality goals for assigned suppliers and drive continuous improvement.
• Oversee PPAP submittals to ensure content meets Whirlpool standards.
• Manage suppliers to ensure seamless product launches for new parts or processes.
• Implement No Defect Forwarding strategies with suppliers.
• Provide real-time failure analysis for test failures and assembly issues.
• Travel to suppliers for process/quality assessments.
• Identify and drive improvements on leading failure modes using SIR, TCQ, FPY data.
• Link quality with design, manufacturing, procurement, marketing, etc.
• Manage multiple assignments concurrently.
• Manage RMA process with SOX compliance.

This role in summary

Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Supplier Quality Engineer opening to join our Quality organization in Tulsa, OK. Our Tulsa factory is the home of Whirlpool’s US freestanding and slide-in range production.

Reporting to the Supplier Quality Lead, the Supplier Quality Engineer is a key position that is responsible for actively driving a "zero defect" mentality, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and problem-solving culture within the supply base for all assigned components and supporting Whirlpool’s implementation of the industry leading World Class Manufacturing initiative.

Your responsibilities will include

• Champion root cause analysis/8D/kaizens and implementation of corrective / preventative action for top (common cause) failures, working with Design engineers, Process engineers, and suppliers.

• Identify, analyze and solve problems by leading cross functional improvement teams.

• Establish specific short / long term quality goals for assigned suppliers and drive continuous improvement activities.

• Oversee disposition of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submittals at the factory ensuring that all content meets Whirlpool standards.

• Actively manage the assigned suppliers to ensure seamless product launches for new parts or processes.

• Work cross functionally to implement No Defect Forwarding strategies with assigned suppliers.

• Provide real time failure analysis for test failures and assembly issues found in the factory.

• Travel to suppliers as required and perform process / quality assessments to ensure suppliers are capable of manufacturing quality components to support our needs.

• Identify and drive improvement initiatives on leading component failure modes for each product platform using external Service Incident Rate (SIR), Total Cost of Quality (TCQ), internal Customer Assurance Lab (CAL) data and First Pass Yield (FPY) line reject failure data.

• Provide a critical link between the quality department and other process partners such as product design, manufacturing, procurement, marketing, etc.

• Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently

• Manage the return material authorizations procedure (RMA) and make sure this process keeps its finance compliance with SOX, this implies having a control on the material kept in quarantine,material rejected from warehouses and production lines

• Advise and develop the necessary strategies to reduce customer field complaints.

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science

• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

• 1+ years of experience with 8D, Drill Deep Drill Wide, 5 Why, Kaizen, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), or Production part approval process (PPAP)

Preferred skills and experiences

• Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Quality engineer and Auditor

• World Class Manufacturing (WCM) exposure- QA Matrix and S&P Matrix

• 4+ years experience in Supplier Quality or Quality role in a manufacturing environment

• Strong familiarity with quality & problem-solving tools

• Outstanding people skills, with the specific ability to interact as a lead player, apply critical thinking and make decisions

• Dynamic self-starter with ability to work independently and with cross functional teams

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and an Adept at the use of Google Suite; Sheets, Docs and Slides

• Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) software, SAS and Google Apps

• Strong analytical orientation with initiative to identify trends/problems and drive actions to correct, often requiring innovative solutions

• Ability to work autonomously with little oversight and make prudent and informed decisions, often quickly and with limited information

• Strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, global team members, and the supply base
