Job summary

Tennant Company in Minneapolis, MN seeks a Quality Engineer to manage supplier quality and drive root-cause analysis for electrical and mechanical components. You will lead the 8D process, perform supplier assessments, and drive continuous improvement across the supply base.

Responsibilities include collaborating with engineering, training suppliers, visiting plants, and guiding sourcing decisions with data-driven insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering preferred
  • 3 years' minimum experience in supply and/or quality within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • MS Office, SAP or related ERP experience
  • Ability to read / interpret engineering drawings, requirements and specifications
  • Experience working with Molded plastics, engines, hydraulics, castings, or metal fabrication
  • Results oriented with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and support other functional areas including finance, legal, R&D and Operations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills across many functions and levels of the organization
  • Willingness to be flexible and adjust to a changing work environment
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation
  • Demonstrated Emotional intelligence and ability to coach and be coached
  • Characterized by integrity and high professional standards

Responsibilities

  • Engage with manufacturing plants & distribution facilities to resolve supply disruptions
  • Utilize plant quality data to monitor disruptions and drive root cause analysis (8D)
  • Manage and improve quality for electrical & mechanical commodities (plastics, engines, hydraulics, castings, metal fabrication)
  • Conduct New Supplier Assessments for input on sourcing decisions and assess capabilities
  • Conduct Supplier Visits to review metrics, processes, and strengthen supplier relationships
  • Train suppliers and ensure adherence to Tennant's supplier manual & expectations
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to the supply chain to optimize sourcing
  • Partner with Tennant engineering to assist with problematic designs and influence new designs
  • Pareto disruptions, plan preventive/predictive actions (PDCA) for chronic issues
  • Lead open issues meetings to resolve quality concerns on electrical components
  • Evaluate material & process changes with suppliers to mitigate risk (deviation/engineering changes)

Job description

GENERAL RESPONISIBILITIES:

Regularly engage with manufacturing plants & distribution facility to resolve any supply disruptions

  • Utilize plant quality data to monitor disruptions, drive root cause and corrective action issues (8D process)
  • Manage and improve quality for electrical & mechanical commodities: Molded plastics, engines, hydraulics, castings, and metal fabrication.
  • New Supplier Assessments for purpose of providing input on sourcing decisions - Assess capabilities with respect to quality management systems, capacity & technology
  • Supplier Visits - Conduct metrics/corrective action reviews, assess processes & capabilities as well as strengthening supplier relationships
  • Train suppliers and hold them accountable to Tennant's supplier manual & expectations
  • Data driven recommendations to supply chain organization: grow, hold steady, retract or re-source based on performance
  • Partner with Tennant engineering to assist with problematic designs & influence new designs
  • Pareto plant disruptions, PPM & warranty data to drive continuous improvement projects (A3) for chronic issues (PDCA)
  • Lead open issues meetings (both internal and external) to resolve quality concerns on electrical components
  • Evaluate material & process changes with the supply base to mitigate risk to Tennant (deviation/engineering changes)
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering preferred
  • 3 years' minimum experience in supply and/or quality within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • MS Office, SAP or related ERP experience
