Job summary

thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America, Inc. in Hamilton, OH seeks a Supplier Quality Assurance professional to lead investigation and containment of quality issues across automotive suppliers.

The role focuses on APQP/PPAP, corrective actions, and statistical methods to improve processes and product quality. You will work with suppliers, internal teams, and management to ensure root causes are identified and effective countermeasures are implemented.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • Experience investigating quality problems and applying sound technical judgment to solutions
  • Experience designing and implementing Corrective Actions in response to process escapes
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly plant procedures
  • Understanding of IATF and AIAG core tools requirements
  • Five years in automotive component manufacturing with APQP, PSO, PPAP, Control Plans, and FMEA
  • Experience presenting technical information to teams and management
  • Experience applying SPC to analyze data and process changes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience developing supplier relationships and driving improvements

Responsibilities

  • Represents the customer and company to suppliers.
  • Analyzes supplier performance indicators and reports findings.
  • Contains suspect materials that do not meet specifications.
  • Coordinates with suppliers on sorts and clean points for production.
  • Investigates non-conformities and verifies corrective actions on site if needed.
  • Tracks costs related to supplier complaints and conducts chargebacks.
  • Drives mistake-proofing and continuous improvement at supplier locations.
  • Manages problem investigations and countermeasure activities.
  • Performs quality training internally or at supplier sites.

Job description

Summary

Supplier Quality Assurance plans and conducts activities related to the quality assurance of industrial processes, materials, and products by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Serves as the customer and company representative to suppliers.
  • Compiles, analyzes, reports, and responds to supplier performance indicators.
  • Facilitates the containment of all suspect materials deemed not to meet part specifications.
  • Coordinates with suppliers to assist with supplier component sorts to identify any non-conforming parts and establish a “clean point” for production.
  • Communicates with suppliers to identify the root cause of any non-conforming parts or quality issues and verifies the suppliers’ corrective actions are implemented effectively. This could involve traveling on site to confirm implementation for corrective action is in place.
  • Tracks all costs related to supplier complaints and conducts chargeback activities.
  • Facilitates mistake-proofing and continuous improvement initiatives at supplier locations.
  • Manage problem investigation & countermeasure activities.
  • Manage problem countermeasures with appropriate problem-solving tools.
  • Conducts occasional quality training internally or at supplier locations.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering or Engineering Technology; or three plus years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgement to develop potential solutions.
  • Experience in designing and implementing Corrective Actions in response to process escapes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, stamping, forging, injection molding, extrusion, etc) and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of IATF and AIAG core tools requirements including customer requirements.
  • Five years of experience in automotive component manufacturing, including experience with APQP, PSO, PPAP, Control Plans, and FMEA.
  • Experience in presenting technical and project information to team members, management and customers.
  • Experience applying statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data and evaluating current process and process changes.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective supplier relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and willingness to identify, initiate and drive improvement teams.
  • Proven track record of customer interface and ability to manage multiple projects and programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven time management, organizational, problem solving and prioritization skills to successfully complete responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
  • Proven experience developing work processes to improve outcomes for the team/customers.
  • Position requires the ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Computer and Technology Skills
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office, SAP, GD&T, Quality control tools, Lean Six Sigma methodologies. Additionally, an individual should have knowledge of the usage of test equipment like hand gages, comparators, plug gages, various test stands, basic CMM handling.
