Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. seeks a Source Inspector for Newport News Shipbuilding in Philadelphia area to review design specs, perform visual and dimensional inspections, verify material certifications, and document nonconformities.

The role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with relevant experience, plus equivalencies as noted. You will coordinate supplier quality activities, ensuring compliance with customer and government requirements, and may audit supplier facilities.

The Role

This Source Inspector role reviews design specifications and standards, conducts visual and dimensional inspections, verifies material certifications and test reports, and identifies and documents defects or nonconformities. The key responsibilities include reviewing design specifications, conducting inspections, verifying material certifications, and identifying defects at Supplier locations.

Plans, organizes, directs and reports on all supplier quality-related activities such as raw materials, packaging materials, good manufacturing practices (GMP) service providers, as well as contract manufacturers, and/or contract manufacturing and laboratories to assure fulfillment of contract/purchase order requirements. Translates engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements. Assures that customer quality-imposed technical requirements are adhered to by supplier and that a quality system is maintained. Conducts programs designed to improve supplier performance, productivity, and process validation. Prepares, maintains and reviews procurement quality assurance procedures to assure compliance with customer and/or government requirements. Reviews and analyzes corrective action reports and purchase orders in an effort to reduce and eliminate defects. Monitors quality control activities and systems at supplier and subcontractor facilities, and maintains feedback loops. May administer a certified supplier program or related programs in receiving inspection. May also audit third party manufacturers, due diligence and vendor selection process. May perform deviation investigations into quality issues.

This position requires the candidate to reside in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience
