Job summary

Our SF-based team at Oura seeks a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery to own end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for battery systems powering our rings. You will oversee cell-to-pack integration, new supplier bring-up, and automation development in a hybrid SF Bay Area role.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive data-driven decisions on energy density, cost, and reliability, and travel up to 15% as needed to meet supplier and project milestones.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of direct experience in battery or electromechanical manufacturing in a Supplier Development/Manufacturing Engineering role.
• Experience with lithium-ion/LiPo cell design, fabrication, or pack assembly and integration.
• Experience collaborating with global suppliers to qualify processes from NPI to mass production.
• Experience bringing up automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to analyze failure modes and identify root causes; familiarity with safety/regulatory standards is a plus.

• Drive suppliers globally to optimize fabrication, assembly, and pack integration; resolve production issues.
• Use data to drive process decisions affecting cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances, and specifications.

We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery based in San Francisco, CA who will provide end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for the battery systems that power OURA’s new and sustaining products. This includes battery cell development and qualification, assembly automation development and line bring-up, cell-to-pack integration into OURA’s ring form factors, new supplier bring up, and process technology R&D.

This is a hybrid role, the candidate should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.

What you will do:

• Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet all OURA design, safety, and operational requirements
• Partner with Battery/Electrical Engineers, Quality Engineers, Material Engineers, and Product Designers to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes for energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliability
• Identify, research, develop, and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers in support of OURA’s hardware development goals
• Lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up — from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production ramp
• Drive suppliers globally to establish and optimize battery cell fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes, ensuring best-in-class quality & resolving production issues
• Use data to drive process decisions and influence product and industrial design, including cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances and specifications

Requirements

• 3+ years of direct experience working in a battery or electromechanical manufacturing environment as a Supplier Development Engineer, Supply Base Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Cell/Battery Process Engineer, Supplier Industrialization Engineer or equivalent role
• Experience with lithium-ion / lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and/or battery pack assembly and integration
• Experience working with global suppliers to establish & qualify manufacturing processes from NPI to Mass Production
• Experience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment
• Ability to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causes
• Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards (e.g. UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) a plus
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Effectively communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partners
• Ability to travel internationally, up to 15% of the time

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Salary range

• San Francisco Bay Area: $151,300 - $178,000
