Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care by performing technical and clerical duties related to pharmacy operations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required. ACPE I.V Certification with a 40-hour course in I.V. admixture preferred.
- Sterile Products Certification through an accredited program is required if the incumbent compounds sterile products.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Principal Accountabilities
- Select prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list.
- Receive merchandise and place into inventory.
- Monitor assigned areas for out-of-stock or out-of-date inventory.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas.
- Inspect and maintain emergency medication trays.
- Package and label unit dose oral liquids/tablets, and maintain pre-pack records.
- Load drugs into an automated drug dispensing system (PYXIS) and maintain inventory for non-automated areas.
- Respond to medication requests from nursing and other departments.
- Follow processes to ensure medication safety compliance.
- Prepare sterile products accurately and aseptically when appropriate.
- Attend to customers as a liaison and gather medication history if applicable.
- Properly manage pharmaceutical waste.
- Process medication returns and credits using the computer system.
- If a registered intern: Contact and confer with physicians regarding drug therapy under supervision.
- Ensure safe patient care, adhering to policies, procedures, standards, and within budget, including time and supply management.
- Support professional growth through continuing education, mentorship, and supporting departmental goals.
- Create compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
