The Head Coach

Qualifications: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education. Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Coach shall:

  • Operate a program within the philosophy of the school.
  • Administer game details for home and away contests.
  • Assign assistant coaches' specific duties.
  • Ensure communication of information and materials to assistants.
  • Be aware of legal responsibilities, take precautions against negligence, and keep staff informed.
  • Manage equipment and facilities for the program.
  • Recommend assistant coaches and letter winners.
  • Use professional coaching methods.
  • Set a good example for assistants.
  • Be highly competent in rules, techniques, strategies, and skills.
  • Motivate staff and players towards goals.
  • Maintain positive public relations within the school and community.
  • Represent the program as part of the educational mission.
  • Stay updated on current developments and literature related to coaching.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.
  • Follow laws, policies, and regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits are consistent with the District's plan. Work hours are set by the School Board.
