Qualifications: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education. Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Coach shall:

  1. Operate a program within the philosophy of the school.
  2. Administer game details for home and away contests.
  3. Assign specific duties to assistant coaches.
  4. Ensure all information and materials are conveyed to assistants.
  5. Be aware of legal responsibilities, take precautions against negligence, and keep staff informed.
  6. Provide care, maintenance, and ordering of equipment and facilities.
  7. Recommend assistant coaches and letter winners.
  8. Use professionally sound coaching methods.
  9. Set a good example for assistants.
  10. Be highly competent in rules, techniques, strategies, and skills.
  11. Motivate staff and players toward goals.
  12. Promote wholesome public relations within the school and community.
  13. Interpret the program as part of the educational mission.
  14. Review current developments and literature related to job responsibilities.
  15. Ensure safety procedures are followed.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal or athletic director.
  17. Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits will be paid according to the District's approved compensation plan. The work year and hours are established by the School Board.

To operate the program under a code of conduct beyond question and to make positive efforts to teach the sport, rules, sportsmanship, and values.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Coach shall:

  1. Assist the Head Coach.
  2. Have a detailed plan for each practice.
  3. Be aware of legal responsibilities and precautions against negligence.
  4. Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Keep the Head Coach informed of players' welfare.
  6. Be competent in activities.
  7. Teach fundamentals.
  8. Comply with employment and non-discrimination policies.
  9. Participate in training programs.
  10. Review current developments and literature.
  11. Adhere to safety rules and policies.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Standard high school diploma or GED; knowledge of the activity; ability to teach it; computer skills as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Same as above.
