Overview
The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) seeks a talented and experienced leader with anti-hunger, nutrition, and anti-poverty expertise to fill the position of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Director. The Director will work to expand access to SNAP and benefit adequacy. This position reports to the President and is part of FRAC's leadership team. FRAC is based in Washington, D.C. and operates remotely. Some in-person meetings in Washington, D.C., and travel to conferences, meetings, and events are required.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the SNAP team, identify opportunities to expand the unit's work, develop resources and materials, and provide technical assistance to ensure access to SNAP.
- Develop, lead, and track unit goals in collaboration with FRAC's President and other Directors; supervise staff.
- Work with the President and Development team on fund development and stewardship.
- Advocate to strengthen, expand, and protect SNAP using policy, research, analysis, partnerships, and coalitions.
- Collaborate with FRAC's state and local partners and other FRAC units to align strategy and projects.
- Develop project management systems with the Chief of Staff to coordinate work across the unit and with other units.
- Lead key projects and initiatives; evaluate effects of existing or proposed legislation, regulations, and policies on SNAP.
- Write persuasive analytic materials, guides, outreach materials, and reports for advocates, government agencies, policy makers, service providers, and media.
- Oversee data and analysis projects within the unit; present to diverse audiences about SNAP access, benefit adequacy, and customer service.
- Plan and organize webinars and trainings; represent FRAC at coalition and partner meetings.
- Manage regrants to state and local nonprofits.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in advocacy, policy analysis, program operations, and/or organizing.
- Advanced degree in law, public policy, or a comparable field, or comparable experience.
- Proven management experience; ability to lead and work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in nonprofit, government, or policy work; experience analyzing and interpreting data.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking; strong knowledge of SNAP.
- Established professional relationships with nutrition assistance program stakeholders (e.g., USDA, Food and Nutrition Service leadership, Members of Congress).
- Capacity to engage people with lived experience of hunger and poverty.
- Experience with public benefits and outreach; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Unquestioned integrity, high energy, sense of humor, and commitment to social justice.
- Experience with media, administrative and legislative federal advocacy, and solid computer and database management skills.
- Commitment to equity and justice; commitment to working for social justice.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $154,000. Excellent health, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefits; generous leave; supportive staff.
