Job description

The Supervisory Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist position is assigned to the Radiation Oncology Service within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. The incumbent is expected to aid in ensuring that the goal of excellence in patient care is met as defined in the department's policies and procedures manual. This includes ensuring the proper implementation of rules, policies, and treatment plans as defined by the physician.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: TRT must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Education (Supporting Documentation Submitted): Individuals must have successfully completed a program in therapeutic radiologic technology, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's or higher degree accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology or other recognized accrediting bodies. The program must include a 12-month ED-accredited program in therapeutic radiologic technology. Certification by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy (T) is required.
  • Certification - Documentation Submitted: All applicants must be certified in therapeutic radiologic technology by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy (ARRT (T)).
Grade Determinations

Supervisory Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist, GS-12

Experience: At least one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent, directly related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Ability to manage daily operations, supervise staff, coordinate staffing and schedules, set priorities, and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate quality improvement programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Administrative skills including reviewing qualifications, interviewing, training, overseeing operations, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Oversight of lower-level TRTs tasks such as CT simulation, treatment delivery, and system management.
  • Effective communication with team members, patients, and external stakeholders.
  • Adherence to radiation safety practices, incident reporting, quality assurance, and systematic data collection.
  • Knowledge of budget management, resource procurement, and planning for equipment replacement.

Preferred: Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
