Supervisory Recreation Specialist Comm Rec

Summary

This position plans, promotes, and implements a variety of MWR or Community Recreation programs and activities. It is responsible for seeking partnerships with community organizations and businesses to support MWR programs and base-wide special events.

Duties

  1. Supervision - 25%
  2. Performs supervisory duties including work assignment, priority setting, hiring recommendations, performance evaluation, pay adjustments, training, leave approval, corrective actions, and disciplinary recommendations.
  3. Supervises federal civil service employees, military personnel, non-Federal workers, volunteers, trainees, or others.
  4. Handles personnel actions and ensures proper timekeeping.
  5. Ensures proper hiring practices and conducts interviews for new hires.
  6. Leads and instructs staff in outdoor skill workshops and activities such as camping, cycling, sailing, backpacking, canoeing, snow skiing, hiking, and water sports.
  7. Provides outdoor field experiences through day and weekend trips.
  8. Manages daily operations of assigned programs, including staffing, training, and scheduling.

Program Management - 35%

  1. Plans, promotes, and implements diverse Community Recreation programs utilizing various facilities, adhering to CNIC standards.
  2. Coordinates leisure skills development activities and classes.
  3. Organizes community events like holidays and concerts.
  4. Acts as a liaison for MWR activities with Fleet & Family Readiness Departments.
  5. Supports unit events with equipment, ideas, and coordination.
  6. Develops, manages, and administers community recreation programs.

Marketing - 15%

  1. Negotiates partnerships and develops relationships with on and off-base organizations.
  2. Creates proposals, executes agreements, and follows up.
  3. Provides information on recreational opportunities.
  4. Plans, promotes, and executes programs and events, utilizing all resources.
  5. Promotes MWR facilities and events through outreach and large group functions.

Administration - 25%

  1. Handles administrative tasks, reports, data collection, and database management.
  2. Gathers input from activity managers to meet goals and standards.
  3. Evaluates programs and provides guidance for improvements.
  4. Assists with SOP writing and ensures safety and sanitation compliance.
  5. Manages inventory, sales, and financial transactions using POS systems.
  6. Prepares daily activity reports and promotes customer service.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid State driver’s license required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service and activity functions.
  • Relevant education (Bachelor’s in Recreation, Marketing, Business, or related) and/or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and develop partnerships.
  • Knowledge of recreational programs and planning.
  • Ability to create, negotiate, and maintain partnerships.
  • Database management skills and public speaking ability.
  • Program planning and leadership skills.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Marketing, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
