Duties
- Serves as a CYS Supervisory Program Specialist with responsibility for supervising CYS direct care staff (minimum of 8 ratios of children in a Child Development Center (Ages 0-5) or 6 ratios of children/youth in a School-Age Program or Youth).
- Prepares work schedules to meet ratio and group size requirements. Provides program oversight and accountability. Monitors and analyzes adult/participant ratio sheets to ensure proper staffing and children are supervised at all times.
- Assists with recruitment and selection of caregiving staff utilizing Army CYS Standard Position Descriptions. Supervises and evaluates employees based on established performance standards as required. Ensures timely submission of personnel actions.
- Assists directors and training specialists to plan, coordinate, and implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.
- Acts as Assistant Director or Director in their absence up to 20% of the time. May work in additional CYS facilities for management oversight during evening or weekend hours.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Must have Direct Deposit and a Social Security Card.
- Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
- Must have a current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with current Army and DoD policy, including annual influenza vaccinations.
- A one-year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
- Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements, and demonstrated on-the-job competency are required. Travel to on and off post locations is required.
- May be subject to irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para 2, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
- The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.
Qualifications
(QUAL 1) Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher, including or supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in fields appropriate to the position, such as education, psychology, sociology, or related behavioral sciences. Education must be directly related to the position.
OR
(QUAL 2) A combination of education and experience, including courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours) in a relevant field, plus appropriate experience or additional coursework providing knowledge comparable to that acquired through a four-year course of study.
In addition, candidates must possess:
- Experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs.
- Experience managing a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
- Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum.
- Demonstrated verbal communication skills through training, presentations, meetings with parents and staff, or similar activities.
