Duties

Responsible for all aspects of pharmacy operations including dispensing, pharmaceutical care, clinical and community relations, and accreditation compliance.

Plans and provides a completely integrated pharmacy program and coordinates these programs with all other departments within the institution including the provision of pharmacy services which may include inpatient, outpatient, parenteral preparations, and logistical solutions to satellite facilities including detention centers, camps, WitSec units, administrative detention, disciplinary segregation, etc.

Reviews all medication orders for appropriateness in regard to dispensing in accordance with proper procedures which involves, reviewing for drug/drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, over-use, under-use, allergies, therapeutic review for adverse drug reactions, ensuring proper laboratory monitoring, review for appropriate clinical outcomes and final check of the prescription to ensure it contains the correct drug and patient directions for use.

Provides supervision and direction to a subordinate staff consisting of Staff Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy Technicians.

Incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Basic Requirements:

Education:

  • A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree.

AND Licensure:

Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. ALL applicants MUST upload proof of current, active and unrestricted license at the time you apply.

Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have a minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience that is equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience may include:

  • Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and others and providing information about proper usage and side effects.
  • Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes in hospitals or managed care.
  • Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens.
  • Supervising and directing subordinate staff (Staff Pharmacists and/or Pharmacy Technicians).
  • Experience in planning and providing an integrated pharmacy program and coordinating with other departments.
