Job summary

Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection), in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division at Boston National Historical Park in Boston, Massachusetts. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Major Duties

This position serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the Boston National Historical Park. The Division's primary law enforcement rangers investigate, apprehend or detain individuals suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal law of the United States committed within the jurisdiction of the park. The Chief also oversees visitor and resource protection services including visitor safety, emergency medical services, and management of visitor parking facilities. Administers the law enforcement program, investigations, court cases, prosecutions/sentencing, coordinate with U.S. Attorney's office. Enforce federal criminal laws within the park's concurrent jurisdiction, manages BOST's law enforcement program-including investigations, court proceedings, prosecution, sentencing, and coordination with the U.S. Attorney Office and Regional Solicitor on cases and tort claims. Formulates park policy for areas of responsibility to include law enforcement, physical security, anti-terrorism, structural fire, employee safety, resource protection, and visitor protection/safety. Provides advice on these programs to park management, other divisions, and the regional office. Establishes long range plans and objectives based on an in-depth knowledge of Service resource management visitor service standards. Identifies needs, formulates budget, programming, and operational guidelines, and establishes goals, program priorities, work plans, and standards for all division programs. Determines current and future needs, develops project statements, justifications, and estimates and acquires equipment, supplies, and other property that is managed.
