Job description

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education:

GL-09 and GS-11: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience:

GL-09 and GS-11: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

GL-09:

  1. Experience working more responsible post, such as Control Center, Front/Rear Gate, and Visiting Room.
  2. Experience providing training and guidance to lower-graded officers.
  3. Experience and knowledge of BOP regulations and policies.
  4. Experience initiating/participating in searching of inmates, inmate housing units and inmate working area to prevent introduction of contraband.

GS-11:

  1. Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
  2. Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters.
  3. Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution.
  4. Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
