Job summary

The Bureau of Prisons in Virginia invites applications for corrections positions at the GL-09/GS-11 level. You will help maintain a humane, secure environment and safeguard public safety by preparing inmates for successful reentry into communities.

Qualified applicants have experience at Control Center, Front/Rear Gate, and Visiting Room posts, knowledge of BOP policies, and the ability to train staff, implement post orders, and conduct internal audits as needed.

Qualifications

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
• Experience at posts such as Control Center, Front/Rear Gate, Visiting Room.
• Experience training and guiding lower-graded officers.
• Knowledge of BOP regulations and policies.
• Experience initiating/participating in inmate searches to prevent contraband.
• Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
• Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters.
• Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution.
• Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees.

Education

GL-09 and GS-11: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience

GL-09 and GS-11: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

GL-09:

• Experience working more responsible posts, such as Control Center, Front/Rear Gate, and Visiting Room.
• Experience providing training and guidance to lower-graded officers.
• Experience and knowledge of BOP regulations and policies.
• Experience initiating/participating in searching of inmates, inmate housing units and inmate working area to prevent introduction of contraband.

GS-11:

• Experience preparing, changing, and implementing post orders.
• Experience preparing quarterly assignment rosters.
• Experience conducting internal audits of all areas in an institution.
• Experience providing guidance and counseling to employees.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
