Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requirements must be met according to VHA policy, and the application must be submitted within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined after review by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Foreign Education: Must be evaluated by an acceptable agency or accompanied by certification eligibility from ASCP BOC or AMT.
  • Certification: Must meet one of the specified certification options, such as generalist or categorical certifications by ASCP or AMT.
  • Grade Determinations: For GS-13 Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist, one year of experience at the next lower grade, with demonstrated KSAs including knowledge of laws, regulations, quality management, interpersonal skills, and supervisory abilities.
Preferred Experience:

Experience in multiple laboratory sections including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Pre-Analytical Services.

Duties
  • Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, oversee complex testing, recognize deviations, and correct problems using scientific principles.
  • Plan work schedules, adjust staffing, and ensure quality management activities.
  • Supervise staff, evaluate performance, and manage operational and administrative issues.
  • Handle biological specimens, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure timely reporting of test results.
  • Manage critical results, write procedures, and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Maintain interdepartmental relations, adjust staffing and procedures as needed, and adhere to work schedule.
