Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, El Paso Field Office, Border Security Division, located in El Paso, Texas.

Key Responsibilities

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to manage one or more national programs in order to help to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering/exiting the U.S. This position starts at a salary of $129,258.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $168,040.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

In this Supervisory CBP Officer (Border Security/Cargo) position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals managing a variety of law enforcement programs. Typical work assignments include: Providing oversight of field operations involving border security enforcement programs, including anti-terrorism, anti-smuggling, anti-fraud, contraband, and related enforcement efforts.

Using operational data, program reviews, trend information, and other evaluation methods to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Overseeing border security and cargo facilitation activities to support lawful trade and travel while ensuring enforcement actions are carried out in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.

Supervising subordinate supervisors and staff by setting priorities, assigning work, evaluating performance, addressing employee concerns, and supporting effective workforce management. Coordinating with CBP, DHS, other government partners, and external stakeholders to support border security operations, enforcement initiatives, and mission objectives.

Requirements & Education

Please see the Qualifications and Required Documents sections for more information if education is applicable to this position. Training: This position has a training requirement. Selectee(s) are required to attend and successfully complete 101-days of paid training at the CBP Field Operations Academy (FOA) in Glynco, GA. Prior to arriving at the FOA, selectee's must complete approximately 7-10 days of pre-academy training.

Upon successful completion of FOA training, selectee's must complete an additional 14-17 weeks of post-academy training the selectee(s) assigned duty station. You may be required to successfully complete the training requirement as a condition of employment.

Failure to successfully complete the required course(s) of training in accordance with CBP standards and policies will result in placement into either a former or different position, demotion, or separation as determined by management and appropriate procedures.
